Background of the Establishment
Historical Context of Madrasah Rahmaniya Supaul
Madrasa Rahmania Supaul, located at Post Office Biraul, District Darbhanga, Bihar, was established against a historical backdrop of social and educational deprivation nearly a century ago. The entire region, extending about one hundred kilometers east, north, and south, was densely populated by Muslims but remained deprived of life’s basic resources and far removed from education and civilization. Due to ignorance, superstitions, and false beliefs, the community suffered from various anxieties and confusions. There was no trace of educational activity—neither primary nor secondary schools, nor any institution of religious learning.
The region was also frequently afflicted by the devastating floods of two major rivers of North Bihar, Kamla Balan and Kosi, both originating from Nepal. These natural calamities caused great destruction and rendered the area backward in terms of communication and economy.
In this background, for the propagation of Islamic sciences, the teachings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, and the promotion of human values, the great saint and scholar Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Arif Saheb Harsinghpuri (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ), under the instruction of his spiritual guide, Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Ali Mungeri (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ) — the founder of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow — established Madrasa Rahmania in the large Muslim township of Supaul. The name was given in honor of Hazrat Maulana Fazlur Rahman Ganj Muradabadi (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ), a great saint of his time. Hazrat Arif Saheb himself took charge of the teaching and educational duties from the very beginning.

Resources for Educational and Developmental Activities
Funding and Leadership Structure
The foundation and progress of this institution have been built upon the donations, alms, and charitable contributions of the general Muslim public. From these funds, the hostel (Darul Iqama) was constructed, and a large number of students began residing there for their studies.
For nearly half a century, the presidency of the institution remained under the leadership of Hazrat Amir-e-Shariat IV, Maulana Syed Shah Muntakh Allah Rahmani (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ) — General Secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. Under his guidance, the educational and training departments of the Madrasa continued to function smoothly.
After his passing, the presidency was held by Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Wali Rahmani Saheb (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ) — Sajjada Nashin of Khanqah Rahmani, Munger, General Secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, and Amir-e-Shariat of Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
The present President of the institution is Mufakkir-e-Millat, Hazrat Maulana Syed Ahmad Wali Faisal Saheb Rahmani (Damat Barkatuhum) — Sajjada Nashin of Khanqah Rahmani, Munger, and Amir-e-Shariat of Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. The President’s decisions regarding all matters of the Madrasa are final and binding. The educational, training, and administrative activities of Madrasa Rahmania continue under his supervision and guidance.
In view of these noble objectives, a formal constitution of Madrasa Rahmania was framed and implemented in 1965, and now, the Madrasa Rahmania Trust has been officially registered.
